Detailed 5 Day Sahara Desert Itinerary from Marrakech
On the first day of our 5 Day Marrakech to Merzouga desert trip, your driver will pick you up in the morning from the airport or your accommodation in Marrakech and start the journey across the High Atlas Mountains. The road climbs through villages and panoramic viewpoints before reaching Tizi n’Tichka (2,260m).
After that we continue to visit Telouet Kasbah, with its Andalusian architecture and ornate cedar wood ceilings (optional stop). Next, we will head to Ait Ben Haddou, the famous clay ksar and UNESCO World Heritage site, which has been featured in films and television series such as Game of Thrones, Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Babel. You’ll have time to walk through the alleys and take photos before continuing to Ouarzazate, known as the "Hollywood of Africa" and the "gateway to the Sahara", with its kasbahs and cinema history (optional stops at Taourirt Kasbah and film Atlas studios).
After lunch in Ouarzazate, we'll take the Route of a Thousand Kasbahs, where we'll see the Kasbah Amridil and pass through the Skoura Oasis and Kelaat M'Gouna, known as the Rose Capital, where you'll visit a local cooperative specializing in rose-based beauty products (optional visit).

After breakfast in Dades, we continue toward Tinghir and stop at the impressive Todra Gorge. This stunning valley, with its towering limestone cliffs reaching up to 320 meters, is located in the eastern part of the High Atlas Mountains and a preferred place for mountain climbers. You’ll have time for a walk between the cliffs and enjoy Moroccan mint tea by the river.
Next, we head to Tinejdad for lunch, then continue our journey to the village of Melaab, where we will visit a local cooperative to learn about Berber culture and try on a Berber wedding costume, and experience henna tattooing (optional). We then drive toward Erfoud, known as the date capital, where we will visit a fossil museum.
In the afternoon, we arrive at the Merzouga desert where you will meet your camel guide and ride camels across the Erg Chebbi dunes to watch the sunset over the desert sands. Then, we continue to the desert camp where you will have dinner and enjoy Berber music and dance performances around the campfire. Overnight in a desert tent under the stars.
Wake up for a breathtaking sunrise over the dunes of Merzouga, a sight not to be missed.; it's well worth it. Then return to your desert camp for a delicious breakfast.
